Mmmm, there is nothing like walking away from the donut shop with a warm apple fritter in your hands, except maybe cutting into this Apple Fritter Casserole. Jammy apples and tender cinnamon roll crust, with the warmth of the spice enhancing the smoky sweetness of brown sugar and the richness of butter… mmmm! Well, it had to be said again! Apple Fritter Casserole can be served for breakfast or dessert, and it’s equally loved as either!
Ingredients
- 2 (12.4-ounce) cans cinnamon rolls
- 1 (20-ounce) can apples
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- fresh apples, optional, to taste, sliced, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
Step 3 –Open the cinnamon rolls and separate them, reserving the icing packet.
Step 4 –Chop the cinnamon rolls into 6-8 pieces each.
Step 5 –Chop the apples from the can into bite-size pieces.
Step 6 –In a bowl, add the cinnamon roll pieces, the chopped apples, the melted butter, the sugar, and the cinnamon and mix until combined and well-coated.
Step 7 –Pour the cinnamon roll mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
Step 8 –Place the casserole dish on the middle rack of the oven and bake until cooked through, about 40-50 minutes.
Step 9 –Drizzle the reserved icing over the top of the casserole.
Step 10 –Serve garnished with the fresh apple slices.
