Aunt Betty’s Best Potluck Brownies

No one knows how to prepare for a potluck like Aunt Betty. In fact, her secret weapon for parties or cookouts only needs an hour to make and considerably less time to vanish from the dessert table; it’s Aunt Betty’s Best Potluck Brownies! These fudgy, super rich, and buttery brownies are a delight with lots of chocolate flavor baked right in. And for a real treat, she tops them with an extra melty chocolate frosting that’s almost molten! Aunt Betty’s Best Potluck Brownies bring cheer to everyone!

Ingredients

For the brownies:

  • 1/2 cup butter, plus more, to taste, for greasing the pan
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, plus more, to taste, for dusting the pan
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the frosting:

  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Use the extra butter to grease an 8-inch square pan, then use the extra flour to lightly dust the greased pan.

Step 3 –In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup of the butter.

Step 4 –Transfer the pan from the heat and allow the butter to cool slightly.

Step 5 –Add the white sugar, the eggs, and 1 teaspoon of the vanilla to the melted butter and stir until well-combined.

Step 6 –Add 1/3 cup of the cocoa powder, the remaining 1/2 cup of the flour, the salt, and the baking powder to the butter mixture and beat until smooth.

Step 7 –Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Step 8 –Bake until the top of the brownie mixture is dry and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 9 –Transfer the pan from the oven and allow the brownies to cool briefly, about 5-10 minutes, before frosting.

Step 10 –In a bowl, add the remaining softened butter, the confectioners’ sugar, the remaining cocoa powder, the honey, and the remaining vanilla extract, and stir until smooth.

Step 11 –Evenly spread the frosting over the brownies while they are still warm.

Step 12 –Serve.
