Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with enough parchment paper so that it hangs over both sides. Top with another sheet of parchment paper in the opposite direction, letting it hang over both sides. Lightly coat the parchment paper on the baking sheet and the baking dish with cooking spray.

Step 3 –In a small pan over medium heat, add the butter and cook, stirring occasionally, until it turns an amber color and has a nutty smell. Be careful not to overcook as it can burn easily.

Step 4 –Pour the browned butter in a small bowl to cool.

Step 7 –In a medium bowl, add 3/4 cup of the flour, the baking powder, and the salt and whisk to combine.

Step 8 –In a large bowl, add the cooled butter and the brown sugar and beat with an electric hand mixer until it is well-combined.

Step 9 –Add the egg to the butter mixture and beat to combine.

Step 10 –Add the vanilla and the bourbon to the egg mixture and beat until it is just combined.

Step 11 –Fold the flour mixture into the egg mixture until the batter is just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 12 –In a second medium bowl, add the remaining flour and the chocolate chips and toss to coat.

Step 13 –Fold the coated chocolate chips and the toasted walnuts into the batter.

Step 14 –Spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.

Step 15 –Bake the blondies until the top is shiny, cracked, and lightly browned, about 22-24 minutes.

Step 16 –Transfer the baking dish to a wire rack and let the blondies cool.

Step 17 –Pull up on the parchment paper to lift the blondies out of the baking dish and place them on a cutting board.

Step 18 –Cut the blondies into squares and serve.
