Dream a little dream of cheese! Each of these Cheese Dreams is coated in golden-brown, crispy cheese concealing a tender, melty, spicy cheese heart. If you love sharp cheddar flavor, it doesn’t get much better than with these Cheese Dreams. You’ll be dreaming about the next time you can serve these up… and they’re so simple, you might just make them for yourself!
Ingredients
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon table salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- ground red pepper or hot sauce, to taste
- 1 (16-ounce) package firm white sandwich bread slices
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 –Lightly grease a baking sheet.
Step 3 –In a bowl, add the cheese and the butter, then, using an electric hand mixer, beat them on medium speed until blended.
Step 4 –Add the heavy cream, the egg, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, the dry mustard, and the ground red pepper and beat to combine.
Step 5 –Cut the crusts from the white bread slices and discard them.
Step 6 –Cut each bread slice into 4 squares.
Step 7 –On 1/2 of the bread squares, spread about 1 teaspoon of the cheese mixture.
Step 8 –Top each of the cheese-topped squares with the remaining bread squares.
Step 9 –Spread the remaining cheese mixture over the top and the sides of the sandwiches, kind of like mini layer cakes.
Step 10 –Place the mini sandwiches on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.
Step 11 –Bake until the mini sandwiches are golden-brown, about 15 minutes.
Step 12 –Serve.
