Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 tablespoons milk, cold

For the filling:

  • 1 1/4 cups plus 2 teaspoons sugar, divided
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 cups strawberries, halved
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into squares
  • 2 teaspoons milk

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9-inch pie dish.

Step 3 –In a bowl, mix 2 2/3 cups of the flour and the salt.

Step 4 –In a different bowl, add the oil and 6 tablespoons of the milk but do not stir them together.

Step 5 –Add the oil and the milk to the flour mixture and combine until a dough forms.

Step 6 –Divide the dough in two, rolling out one portion to fit the pie dish and the other to be slightly larger.

Step 7 –Place the smaller dough portion in the pie dish.

Step 8 –In a bowl, combine 1 1/4 cups of the sugar, the remaining flour, the nutmeg, and the cinnamon.

Step 9 –Add the strawberries to the sugar mixture and stir to coat.

Step 10 –Fill the bottom crust with the filling mixture.

Step 11 –Scatter the butter squares atop the filling.

Step 12 –Place the top crust portion over the filling and pinch the edges sealed to close.

Step 13 –Brush the top crust with the remaining milk and sprinkle it with the remaining sugar.

Step 14 –Place the pie dish on a cookie sheet and bake until the crust is cooked through and golden, about 50 minutes.

Step 15 –Allow the pie to cool before serving.
