Ingredients

  • unsalted butter, to taste, room temperature, for greasing the baking dish
  • 8 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 10 slices brioche, 1/2-inch-thick
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Directions

Step 1 –Using the extra butter, grease a shallow 2-quart baking dish.

Step 2 –In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, the milk, the sugar, the cinnamon, and the salt together.

Step 3 –Dip the brioche slices into the egg mixture, then overlap them slightly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the raisins between the slices.

Step 4 –Pour the remaining egg mixture over the brioche slices and let stand for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or up to overnight in the refrigerator.

Step 5 –Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Step 6 –Bake the French toast bake until it is puffed and the custard is just set in the center, about 55 minutes-1 hour 5 minutes.

Step 7 –Let the French toast bake cool for 15 minutes.

Step 8 –Serve.
