  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 (16-ounce) package frozen tater tots
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • chives, optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish


Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –In a medium skillet over medium high heat, add the ground beef and the onion and cook, while crumbling the beef, until the meat is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3 –Drain the grease from the skillet.

Step 4 –Add the ground beef mixture to an 8-inch square baking dish.

Step 5 –Top the beef mixture with the frozen tater tots.

Step 6 –In a small bowl, stir together the cream of mushroom soup and the milk.

Step 7 –Pour the soup mixture over the tot layer.

Step 8 –Cover the casserole with foil and bake until the tater tots are cooked through and crispy, about 45 minutes.

Step 9 –Serve garnished with the chives.
