Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cooking sherry
Directions
Step 1 –In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, the egg, the breadcrumbs, the pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, the onion powder, the garlic powder, and the Worcestershire sauce.
Step 2 –Form the meat mixture into 8 balls, then flatten them into patties.
Step 3 –Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Step 4 –Fry the patties and the onion in the hot oil until the patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side.
Step 5 –Transfer the patties to a plate and keep warm. Reserve the onions in the skillet.
Step 6 –Sprinkle the flour over the onions and the drippings in the skillet.
Step 7 –Whisk the flour, making sure to scrape up the brown bits at the bottom of the pan.
Step 8 –Gradually mix in the beef broth and the sherry.
Step 9 –Season the gravy mixture with the remaining seasoned salt.
Step 10 –Simmer the gravy over medium-low heat, stirring, until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
Step 11 –Reduce the heat to low and return the patties to the gravy.
Step 12 –Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes.
Step 13 –Serve hot.
