Easy and fresh are two of our favorite adjectives. Add those two words in front of popovers, as in Easy Fresh Popovers, and boy are we in for a treat! These fluffy, buttery, golden-brown balls of joy are just so yummy. They are very low effort, just as their title describes, and make for a delicious side to any kind of meal. Spread them all over with your favorite fruity jam and maybe even a slab of butter and you’ve got yourself the perfect dinnertime treat. Ah, Easy Fresh Popovers! What a mealtime masterpiece they are!

Ingredients
- 1 cup bread flour
- 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
- 1 cup whole milk or non-fat milk, warmed
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more, room temperature, for serving
- 3 large eggs
- 2-3 teaspoons vegetable shortening
- jam, to taste, for serving
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Step 2 –In a medium bowl, whisk the flour and the salt together.
Step 3 –In another bowl, whisk the milk, the melted butter, and the eggs together.
Step 4 –Make a well in the flour mixture, pour in the milk mixture, and whisk until the batter is smooth.
Step 5 –Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
Step 6 –Heat a nonstick popover pan in the oven for 5 minutes.
Step 7 –Carefully transfer the heated pan to a wire rack and brush the inside of the cups with the shortening.
Step 8 –Carefully ladle the batter into the cups.
Step 9 –Bake the popovers, without opening the oven, for 20 minutes.
Step 10 –Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F.
Step 11 –Bake the popovers until they are golden-brown, about 20 minutes.
Step 12 –Immediately poke the popovers with a paring knife to release the steam.
Step 13 –Carefully transfer the popovers from the pan.
Step 14 –Serve the popovers immediately with the room temperature butter and the jam.
