Ingredients

  • 6 chicken thighs, bone in or out, with or without skin
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • green onions, optional, for serving
  • sesame seeds, optional, for serving

Editor’s Notes:

For oven-baked, bone-in thighs: Preheat oven at 400°F or 200°C. Sear chicken in an ovenproof skillet or pan, skin side down first for 3 minutes. Flip and sear for a further 3 minutes until browned each side. Then bake in the oven for a further 20-25 minutes, until completely cooked through and no longer pink inside. Continue directions from the sauce, onwards.

Directions

Step 1 –Season the chicken with the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 2 –Heat a pan or skillet over medium-high heat on the stove-top.

Step 3 –Lightly sear the chicken thighs on both sides until golden and cooked through, registering 165 degrees F in its thickest part, about 6-8 minutes per side. If you are using bone-in thighs, reduce your heat after searing on both sides, cover the skillet with a lid, and flip the chicken every 5 minutes to ensure it is cooked evenly.

Step 4 –Drain 3/4 of the excess oil from the pan, leaving the rest to ensure properly moist, and delicious chicken.

Step 5 –Arrange the chicken skin-side up in the pan.

Step 6 –Place the crushed garlic cloves between the chicken, frying for around 30 seconds.

Step 7 –Gently pour in the honey, broth, vinegar, and soy sauce.

Step 8 –Increase the heat to medium-high and continue to cook until the sauce reduces and becomes slightly thick, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 9 –Garnish the honey garlic chicken with the chopped green onions or sesame seeds.

Step 10 –Serve.
