  • 1 pound tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, optional, seeded and finely minced
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • tortilla chips, optional, to taste
