It’s called the Gobbler Bake for two reasons. Firstly, it features juicy ground turkey. Secondly, it makes you want to gobble it up! Tender pasta, beefy mushrooms, rich tomato sauce, and melty cheese help to highlight and uplift the turkey, so you’ll be ready to scoop even more onto your plate! Gobbler Bake is a gobbling great time!
Ingredients
- 8 ounces penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
- 1 (28-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley
- 5 ounces spinach
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 –Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until al dente, according to the package directions.
Step 3 –Drain the pasta, reserving 1 cup of the pasta water.
Step 4 –Heat the oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
Step 5 –Add the onion and the mushrooms and cook until softened, about 5-6 minutes.
Step 6 –Add in the garlic, the Italian seasoning, the red chili flakes, the salt, and the pepper and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Step 7 –Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook until cooked through, about 7-8 minutes.
Step 8 –Add in the tomato sauce and the fresh parsley and cook until heated through, about 7-8 minutes.
Step 9 –Add the spinach and cook until wilted, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 10 –Stir in the reserved pasta water.
Step 11 –Add the pasta and 1 cup of the mozzarella to the skillet, stirring to combine well.
Step 12 –Spread the remaining mozzarella on top.
Step 13 –Bake until the cheese has melted, about 20 minutes.
Step 14 –Let the bake rest for 10 minutes.
Step 15 –Serve.
