Grandpa’s Favorite Butter Cookies

Grandpa always had quite the sweet tooth and we loved that about him, especially when we were kids. Every time we visited him, he’d always have some kind of treat to give us, which made us super excited. More times than not, the sweet of choice he handed off was Grandpa’s Favorite Butter Cookies. Moist, gooey, and just plain yummy, these perfect cookies basically melted in your mouth, so it makes sense why he liked them so much. Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

Directions

Step 1 –In the bowl, add the butter and the brown sugar and beat with an electric hand mixture until it is light and fluffy.

Step 2 –Add the eggs, the water, and the vanilla to the butter mixture and beat to combine.

Step 3 –In a second bowl, add the flour, the cream of tartar, and the baking soda and whisk to combine.

Step 4 –Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix well.

Step 5 –Shape the cookie dough into 2 logs and wrap them individually in plastic wrap.

Step 6 –Place the dough logs in the refrigerator and let them chill, for at least 4 hours and up to overnight.

Step 7 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 8 –Grease one or two baking sheets.

Step 9 –Cut each of the dough logs into 1/4-inch-thick slices.

Step 10 –Place the cookie slices 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Step 11 –Bake the cookies, in batches, until they are lightly browned, 8-10 minutes.

Step 12 –Transfer the baking sheets to a wire rack and let the cookies cool. Repeat the baking process with the remaining dough.

Step 13 –Serve.
