Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground lamb or ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/3 cup bulgur
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups romaine lettuce, shredded
- 6 kaiser rolls, split and toasted
- 4 ounces feta cheese with tomato and basil, crumbled, or plain feta cheese, crumbled, for serving
Directions
Step 1 –In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground meat and the onion, stirring constantly, until the meat is brown and crumbly and the onion is tender. Drain off any excess grease.
Step 2 –On medium-high heat, add the tomato sauce, the bulgur, the oregano, the salt, and the black pepper to the meat mixture and bring to a boil.
Step 3 –Reduce the heat and simmer the meat mixture until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
Step 4 –Add the lettuce to the kaiser roll bottoms, and then top with the meat mixture.
Step 5 –Sprinkle the feta cheese over the meat mixture and return the kaiser roll top.
Step 6 –Serve.
