Biking a mile may sound like a simple concept to people in which a bicycle rider has to just cover a distance of 1 mile while riding the bike. However, there are many factors that determine the time it might take the bicycle rider to bike a mile. Among many factors, the major time determining factor is the biking situations in which the bicycle rider has to bike a mile.
Depending upon these conditions, the time varies. While considering these factors, there are 5 major situations that are considered, that is, normal bike riding, mountain region bike riding, downhill bike riding, hill road bike riding, and lastly, professional bike riding.
How Long Does It Take To Bike A Mile?
|Bike Riding Situation||Time|
|Normal bike riding||10 to 12 minutes|
|Mountain region bike riding||15 to 20 minutes|
|Downhill bike riding||6 to 7 minutes|
|Hill road bike riding||20 to 25 minutes|
|Professional bike riding||7 to 10 minutes|
Just as the name suggests, normal bike riding is the type of bike riding situation which is the most common. In this biking situation, the bicycle rider does not have to put heavy effort into riding the bike, but just normal efforts. Riding the bike in this situation is quite easy and even a beginner who knows how to ride a bike can also ride a mile taking not much time. If the bicycle rider is riding the bike under normal biking situations then it would take him or her 10 to 12 minutes to bike a mile.
The next biking situation is the hill region bike riding. With this situation in mind, it is supposed that the paths are in slope and uphill to a huge angle. As a result, the bicycle rider has to push the bike a lot in an upward direction, and put more effort than usual and it would take relatively quite a long time to bike a mile. When a bicycle rider is biking a mile in a hill region, then it would about 20 to 25 minutes to bike a mile.
Another biking situation is downhill bike riding which is by far the easiest situation to ride a bike. When this situation is considered, the path is supposed to be downwards in slope with no turns. While riding a bike in this situation, the bicycle rider will have to put less to no effort at all. Riding a bike in this situation will take about 5 to 7 minutes to bike a mile.
Mountain road bike riding suggests the type of condition from its name only. In this situation, the paths are supposed to be full of turns which play a vital role in increasing the time it would take to complete a distance. Riding a bike in this situation would take about 15 to 20 minutes to bike a mile.
Why Does It Take That Long To Bike A Mile?
Apart from the type of bike riding situation, there are many other factors that determine the time it would take to bike a mile and consequently answer why it takes that long to bike a mile. These factors could be the experience of a bicycle rider, health of bicycle rider, type of bike, terrain, and most importantly, biking speed.
It is quite obvious that if the speed of the bike is faster, then it would take quite less time to bike a mile. While, on the other hand, if the speed of the bike will be slow then it would take more time to complete the distance of one mile while riding a bike.
Moreover, if the bike rider would be experienced in riding a bike then also the time it would take to bike a mile would be reduced, Whereas, if a beginner bike rider is riding the bike then it would take more time for that bike rider to bike a mile
If the person riding the bike has a good physique and is physically fit then it would take less time to bike a mile. While the person who is less physically fit would take longer to cover the distance.
