  • 1 (16-ounce) bag baby carrots
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste


Step 1 –In a pan over medium-high heat, add the carrots, the water, the butter, and the brown sugar and bring to a boil.

Step 2 –Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low.

Step 3 –Let the carrot mixture simmer for 6 minutes.

Step 4 –Increase the heat to high and cook the carrot mixture, stirring occasionally but keeping the pan covered otherwise, until all the water is evaporated and the carrots are tender, about 5–6 minutes.

Step 5 –Transfer the carrots from the heat and sprinkle them with the salt and the pepper.
