These ooey-gooey treats have it all, and in a swirl, to boot! Marble Gooey Bars are marbled with a tangy, creamy, and yes, gooey cream cheese filling, that is sweet and laced with rich chocolate. The cake beneath it is tender, buttery, and just waiting to get scooped up by the spoonful! It’s time for something special for dessert and these Marble Gooey Bars fit the bill!
Ingredients
For the cake layer:
- 1 (15.25-ounce) box yellow cake mix
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg
For the filling:
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 3 –In a mixing bowl, add the cake mix, 1/2 cup of the melted butter, and 1 of the eggs and beat well until combined. The batter should be thick.
Step 4 –Spread the batter evenly on the bottom of the baking dish.
Step 5 –Beat the cream cheese, the remaining eggs, the remaining melted butter, and the vanilla together until smooth.
Step 6 –Gradually add the powdered sugar to the cream cheese mixture and beat until fully combined.
Step 7 –Reserve 1 cup of the cream cheese mixture.
Step 8 –Spread the remaining cream cheese mixture over the cake batter layer.
Step 9 –In a saucepan or in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave, melt the chocolate chips until smooth.
Step 10 –Mix the melted chocolate with the reserved cream cheese mixture until fully combined.
Step 11 –Spoon dollops of the chocolate-cream cheese mixture on top of the plain cream cheese layer.
Step 12 –Swirl the chocolate-cream cheese mixture into the plain cream cheese layer with a knife to create a marbled effect.
Step 13 –Bake until just set, about 45 minutes.
Step 14 –Let the bars cool completely.
Step 15 –Slice and serve.
