Saucy Swiss Steak lets the slow cooker do most of the work. Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- paprika, to taste
- 2 pounds beef cube steaks
- 3 green bell peppers, sliced into rings
- 3 red bell peppers, sliced into rings
- 4 onions, sliced into rings
- 4 (14.5-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
Directions
Step 1 –In a skillet over medium heat, heat the oil.
Step 2 –In a bowl, add the flour, the salt, the pepper, and the paprika and mix to combine.
Step 3 –Dredge the steaks in the flour mixture.
Step 4 –Add the steaks to the skillet and brown them on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Step 5 –Transfer the steaks from the heat.
Step 6 –In a slow cooker, alternate layers of the steaks, the green bell peppers, the red bell peppers, the onions, and the tomatoes and their juices until all of the ingredients are used.
Step 7 –Cover the slow cooker and cook on low until the steaks are very tender, about 6-8 hours.
Step 8 –Serve.
