You’ve heard of bread bowls before, but nothing like this! Savory Breakfast Loaf is a crispy, buttery loaf literally filled with savory ham, scrambled fluffy eggs, and sharp melty cheese! Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 (1-pound) round loaf French bread
- 6 ounces sliced deli ham, divided
- 3/4 cup Monterey Jack
- cheese, shredded and divided
- 3/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded and divided
- 1/2 medium sweet red pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 –Whisk the eggs, salt, and pepper together.
Step 3 –Heat the butter in a large skillet on the stove-top over medium heat.
Step 4 –Pour the egg mixture into the hot skillet.
Step 5 –Cook and stir the eggs until the eggs thicken and no liquid remains, for about 5 minutes.
Step 6 –Remove the skillet from the heat.
Step 7 –Cut 1/4 of the French bread loaf off the top. Hollow out both parts of the loaf, creating a 1/2-inch shell.
Step 8 –Pour 1/4 of the ham in the bread bottom.
Step 9 –Add half of the Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese.
Step 10 –Layer in the red pepper, scrambled eggs, tomato, and the remaining ham, Monterey Jack, and cheddar cheeses.
Step 11 –Press the layers gently together, and replace the bread top.
Step 12 –Wrap the bread tightly in foil.
Step 13 –Bake until the loaf is heated through, about 25-30 minutes.
Step 14 –Let it stand for at least 10 minutes before serving in wedges.
