Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 (4 ounce) bar semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped, divided
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened natural or Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, leveled
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with aluminum foil or parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the finished brownies out. Set the pan aside.

Step 3 –In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and 2 ounces of the chopped chocolate.

Step 4 –Melt in 30-second increments, whisking after each interval, until completely smooth.

Step 5 –Whisk in the sugar until completely combined.

Step 6 –Whisk in the eggs and vanilla. The batter will be light brown.

Step 7 –Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, the remaining 2 ounces of the chopped chocolate and the chocolate chips.

Step 8 –Fold the mixture together with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon. The batter will be very thick.

Step 9 –Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Step 10 –Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs on it, about 30-35 minutes.
