Ingredients

For the cheeseburger pie:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Toppings:

  • pickle slices, to taste
  • ketchup, to taste
  • burger sauce, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 –Coat a 9-inch pie plate with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 3 –In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil, the ground beef, the onion, and the kosher salt and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess grease.

Step 4 –Add the Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture and cook until it absorbs, about 2 minutes.

Step 5 –Transfer the ground beef mixture to the prepared pie plate.

Step 6 –In a medium bowl, add the eggs, the buttermilk, and the melted butter and whisk to combine.

Step 7 –Add the flour and the baking powder to the egg mixture and whisk until it is smooth.

Step 8 –Evenly pour the flour mixture over the beef mixture.

Step 9 –Evenly sprinkle the cheese on the top of the beef mixture.

Step 10 –Bake the cheeseburger pie until the top has browned and the center is set, about 25 minutes.

Step 11 –Serve the cheeseburger pie topped with the pickle slices, the ketchup, and the burger sauce.
