Southern Cheese Grits Casserole

Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits, uncooked
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Lightly grease a 7×11-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the milk to just a boil.

Step 4 –Gradually whisk the butter and the grits into the milk.

Step 5 –Reduce the heat to low and simmer, whisking constantly, until the grits are done, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 6 –Transfer the saucepan from the heat.

Step 7 –Stir the eggs, the cheddar cheese, the salt, and the pepper into the grits.

Step 8 –Pour the grits mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 9 –Sprinkle the top of the grits with the parmesan.

Step 10 –Bake until set, about 35-40 minutes.

Step 11 –Serve.
