A cousin of the German schnitzel, Southern Milanesa draws from the light, sunny flavors of the Mediterranean for its pounded-thin, fried protein! But instead of the typical Chicken Milanese, Southern Milanesa delivers the crispy, golden-brown dish with tender beef for a splendidly savory experience! That’s right, this is chicken-fried steak in a whole new way! Crunchy on the outside and finished with a splash of refreshing lime, this is one dish you just can’t pass up!

Directions

Step 1 –In a shallow dish, add the flour, the salt, and the pepper and whisk to combine.

Step 2 –In a second, separate shallow dish, add the beaten eggs.

Step 3 –In a third separate shallow dish, add the breadcrumbs and the garlic and whisk to combine.

Step 4 –Dredge the cube steaks first in the flour mixture, then in the beaten eggs, and lastly in the breadcrumb mixture, making sure to cover all sides.

Step 5 –In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat about 1/2-inch of the oil.

Step 6 –Place 1 of the dredged steaks in the hot oil and cook until golden-brown and the meat reaches an internal temperature of about 150 degrees F, about 3 minutes per side.

Step 7 –Transfer the cooked steak to a plate and repeat the frying process with the remaining steaks.

Step 8 –Serve the steaks drizzled with the juice from the halved lime.
