  • 10 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 pound coconut, shredded
  • 2 cups sunflower seeds, raw
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 3 cups nuts, of your choice, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, raw or brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups canola oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup blackstrap molasses
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • raisins and dried fruit, optional, to taste


Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.

Step 2 –Combine the oats, wheat germ, coconut, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and nuts in a very large bowl.

Step 3 –Heat the sugar, water, canola oil, honey, molasses, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla in a large kettle until sugar dissolves. Make sure the syrup doesn’t boil.

Step 4 –Pour the syrup over dry ingredients and stir well to coat.

Step 5 –Spread the granola mixture into multiple (3-5) 9×13-inch pans or cookie sheets with sides.

Step 6 –Bake for 20-30 minutes, stirring several times. If crunchier granola is desired, bake up to 15 minutes more.

Step 7 –Remove the granola from the oven and add the raisins or other dried fruit.
