Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds thick-cut bacon, chopped into 1/2-inch chunks
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon thyme leaves
- 2 tablespoons beef stock
Directions
Step 1 –Heat a large skillet on the stove-top over medium heat.
Step 2 –Once heated, throw in the bacon chunks and cook until all the pieces are evenly cooked and crispy.
Step 3 –Move the bacon pieces to a separate plate and reserve 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease from the skillet. Drain the rest of the grease.
Step 4 –Return the reserved bacon grease and the bacon pieces to the skillet.
Step 5 –Add in the sliced onions and stir to combine, making sure all of the onions become coated in the grease and bacon pieces.
Step 6 –Cook until the onions soften, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 7 –Add in the maple syrup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, thyme leaves, and beef stock. Stir until the sugars dissolve.
Step 8 –Allow the mixture to cook until it thickens into a jam-like consistency and the onions have a deep golden color.
Step 9 –Serve warm or chilled from the refrigerator!
