Fun fact: the classic Salisbury Steak hails from Missouri. In that spirit, here’s a casserole-take on that same classic! Classic Missouri Dinner Bake layers onion-infused beef with a wonderfully savory and tangy gravy, and then adds in green beans for a refreshing, balancing flavor contrast. Oh, and on top? Fluffy mashed potatoes, of course! Classic Missouri Dinner Bake is called a classic for a reason!

Ingredients
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can French onion soup, divided
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/8 teaspoon black ground pepper
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup
- 1 (1-ounce) packet dry onion soup mix
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 (6-ounce) jar sliced mushrooms, optional, drained
- 1 (14.5-ounce) can French-cut green beans, drained
- 2-3 cups mashed potatoes, cooked and cooled (leftovers work great)
- fresh parsley, optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish

Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 –In a deep skillet, combine 1/3 can of the French onion soup, the ground beef, and the pepper.
Step 3 –Simmer the beef until cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 4 –In a small bowl, combine the remaining French onion soup, the cream of mushroom soup, the dry onion soup mix, and the flour until well-combined and no longer lumpy.
Step 5 –Add the ketchup, the water, the Worcestershire sauce, the mustard powder, and the mushrooms to the soup mixture, mixing well.
Step 6 –Transfer the beef mixture to a 9×13-inch pan.
Step 7 –Pour the soup mixture over top of the beef mixture.
Step 8 –Layer the green beans over top of the soup mixture.
Step 9 –Top the bake with the mashed potatoes.
Step 10 –Bake until heated through, about 20 minutes.
Step 11 –Garnish with the fresh parsley and serve immediately.
