Ingredients

  • 1 pound pasta, cavatappi, shells, or elbow
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cup white cheddar, shredded

Directions

Step 1 –Cook the pasta according to package directions while making the sauce.

Step 2 –Drain the pasta and set aside until ready to use.

Step 3 –In a large pot on medium-high heat on the stove-top, melt the butter.

Step 4 –Whisk in the flour and cook for about one minute until the raw flour smell dissipates.

Step 5 –Reduce the heat to medium and add the milk, heavy cream, salt, dry mustard, and pepper.

Step 6 –Continue whisking until the mixture begins to bubble.

Step 7 –Reduce the heat to low and add the white cheddar. Stir until melted.

Step 8 –Add the cooked pasta, stirring until combined.

Step 9 –Remove the pasta from the heat and allow it to sit until thickened, about 5 minutes.

Step 10 –Season with additional salt and pepper and serve warm!
