Ingredients
- 4 cups sweet onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup white wine or chicken broth
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 cups Gruyère or Swiss cheese, shredded
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- assorted crackers, to taste, for dipping
- fresh assorted vegetables, to taste, of your choice, for serving
Directions
Step 1 -In a 3-quart slow cooker, add the onions, the butter, the wine, the garlic, and the bay leaf and stir to combine.
Step 2 -Cover and cook on high until the onions are tender and golden-brown, about 4-5 hours.
Step 3 -Remove and discard the bay leaf, then reduce the heat to low.
Step 4 -Stir in the Gruyère cheese, the cream cheese, and the sour cream.
Step 5 -Cover and cook on low until the cheese is melted, about 1 hour.
Step 6 -Serve the dip with the crackers and the vegetables
