Salisbury Steak Bake

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup mushrooms, diced
  • 1 cup onions, diced
  • 1 (0.87-ounce) brown gravy mix
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 (8-ounce) package instant mashed potato mix, butter and herb flavored

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, add the ground beef.

Step 4 –Cook the beef until no pink remains, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5 –Add the mushrooms and the onions to the ground meat in the pan and cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 6 –Drain the fat from the pan.

Step 7 –Add the gravy mix and the cream of mushroom soup to the pan, stirring until all of the meat is coated.

Step 8 –Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Step 9 –Into a large saucepan, add the water and the butter.

Step 10 –Bring the butter mixture to a boil on the stove-top.

Step 11 –Once the butter mixture is boiling, immediately transfer the saucepan from the heat and gently stir in the milk and the mashed potato mix.

Step 12 –Leave the mashed potato mixture to sit for 1 minute.

Step 13 –Stir the potatoes and spread them on top of the meat mixture in the baking dish.

Step 14 –Bake until the potatoes start to brown around the edges, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 15 –Let the casserole rest for at least 5 minutes.

Step 16 –Slice and serve.
