Traditional Amish Casserole

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen peas
  • 20 ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • 20 ounces cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups bread, crumbled
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –In a large pot of salted, boiling water, cook the noodles to al dente, according to the package directions.

Step 4 –In a large skillet, add the ground beef and the onion and cook, while crumbling the beef, until the meat is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5 –In a large bowl, combine the cooked noodles, the beef mixture, the peas, the cream of mushroom soup, the cream of chicken soup, and the sour cream.

Step 6 –Pour the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 7 –In a small bowl, toss the bread with the melted butter and then sprinkle it over the top of the casserole.

Step 8 –Cover the casserole with foil, then bake for 25 minutes.

Step 9 –Uncover the casserole and bake until it is heated through and lightly browned, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 10 –Serve immediately.
