Ingredients
- 1 cup stone ground grits
- 8 cups water, divided
- salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Directions
Step 1 –In a large bowl, soak the grits in 4 cups of the water until the extraneous pieces float to the top.
Step 2 –Skim off the risen pieces from the grits and discard.
Step 3 –Drain the grits in a strainer.
Step 4 –Lightly grease a slow cooker.
Step 5 –In a slow cooker, add the grits, the remaining water, the salt, the butter, and the heavy cream and mix to combine.
Step 6 –Cover the slow cooker and cook the grits on low heat, about 7-8 hours.
Step 7 –Serve.
