All-American Apple Crisp

When you’re feelin’ like celebrating the red, white, and blue, but don’t quite have the time (or patience) to bake the classically patriotic apple pie, this All-American Apple Crisp is the next best thing! Everyone will be parading around these super tender apples covered in a cinnamon-y and syrupy sauce, that’s covered with the most delicious, golden crisp topping! A scoop of yummy vanilla ice cream melting all over will really set off the fireworks for everyone’s tastebuds, too. Three cheers for the All-American Apple Crisp! May it be this tasty forever!

Ingredients

For the apple filling:

  • 10 cups all-purpose apples, peeled and cored, sliced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water

For the oat topping:

  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • vanilla ice cream, optional, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Place the apples in a 9×13-inch pan.

Step 3 –In a bowl, mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon of the flour, and the ground cinnamon together.

Step 4 –Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over the apples.

Step 5 –Evenly pour the water over the apple mixture.

Step 6 –In another bowl, combine the oats, the remaining flour, the brown sugar, the baking powder, the baking soda, and the melted butter together.

Step 7 –Evenly spread the oat mixture over the apple mixture.

Step 8 –Bake the crisp until warm and golden on top, about 45 minutes.

Step 9 –Serve the crisp with the vanilla ice cream.
