Championship Nachos

Get on the winning team and add this fabulous appetizer to your game-day roster. Championship Nachos will take home the trophy for “Best Snack on the Table”. Add tortilla chips, seasoned and savory ground beef, creamy refried beans, and sharp cheddar cheese with all of the best Tex-Me toppings to define great nacho taste, and you’ll walk off the kitchen field feeling proud… and full! Championship Nachos will put you on the map as the defending champion of incredible appetizers. Now that’s a winner!

Ingredients

For the nachos:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 (15-ounce) can refried beans
  • 16 ounces tortilla chips
  • 4 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Optional toppings:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1/3 cup olives, sliced
  • 1/2 cup refrigerated salsa
  • 1/3 cup cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup jalapeños, sliced or pickled
  • 1/4 cup red onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Line an 18×26-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 3 –In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook, while crumbling, until the meat is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4 –Drain the excess grease and return the cooked ground beef to the skillet.

Step 5 –Add the taco seasoning to the ground beef and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant and incorporated, about 1 minute-1 minute 30 seconds.

Step 6 –Add the water and the refried beans to the ground beef mixture and cook, stirring frequently, until heated through.

Step 7 –Keep the beef mixture warm.

Step 8 –Evenly spread the tortilla chips on the bottom of the prepared baking sheet.

Step 9 –Sprinkle 2 cups of the cheddar cheese over the tortilla chip layer.

Step 10 –Dot the ground beef mixture over the top of the cheddar cheese layer, aiming for an even layer for optimal coverage.

Step 11 –Evenly sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the top of the beef layer.

Step 12 –Bake, uncovered, until the cheese is fully melted, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 13 –Transfer the nacho mixture from the oven to a wire rack.

Step 14 –Serve with your favorite toppings.
