Creamy Chicken Stroganoff

Traditionally, it’s beef that makes an appearance in this Eastern European dish, but this Creamy Chicken Stroganoff will remind you of the tasty power of poultry! The chicken is tender, juicy, and savory, covered in a fantastically creamy sauce that just enhances the meaty flavor. All of this wonderful flavor is served over egg noodles, which only elevates the rich flavors and adds a buttery note all their own! Creamy Chicken Stroganoff shows that even classics can be played with, and the results are scrumptious!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pound chicken breasts, skinless and boneless, cut into thin strips
  • 1 teaspoon Greek seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • salt, to taste
  • 1 (12-ounce) package egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 –Melt the butter in a heavy skillet over medium heat.

Step 2 –Add the onion and the mushrooms.

Step 3 –Cook until the onions release their liquid and the mushrooms soften, about 5 minutes.

Step 4 –Season the chicken strips with the Greek seasoning and the black pepper.

Step 5 –Place the chicken strips in the skillet, stirring over medium heat and cooking until lightly browned on all sides, and cooked through at 165 degrees F internally, about 5 minutes.

Step 6 –Meanwhile, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.

Step 7 –Cook the egg noodles to al dente, according to the package directions.

Step 8 –Drain the noodles and set them aside.

Step 9 –Pour the chicken broth, the milk, and the Worcestershire sauce into the skillet with the chicken mixture.

Step 10 –Slowly stir the sour cream, 1 tablespoonful at a time, into the chicken mixture.

Step 11 –In a small bowl, add a small amount of the sauce and whisk with the flour until smooth.

Step 12 –Stir the flour mixture back into the chicken mixture and simmer until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.

Step 13 –Season the chicken mixture with the salt and the black pepper.

Step 14 –Pour the chicken mixture over the egg noodles and garnish with the parsley.

Step 15 –Serve.
