Dressy Pasta

This elegant yet rustic meal has bowties to spare – tender bowtie pasta that is, which adds a dressed-up touch to the garden-fresh broccoli, the meaty, savory sausage, and the bright, summery sun-dried tomatoes in each bite. Suited up in a luscious and gorgeous cream sauce, Dressy Pasta tastes like the highest of formal occasions, but it only needs 30 minutes to get ready! Dressing up never felt so fun!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound mild Italian pork sausage, casing removed
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 pound bowtie pasta
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups small broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, drained of oil and julienned
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, plus more for serving, grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • red chili flakes, optional, to taste, and for serving

Directions

Step 1 –Heat a large pot over medium heat.

Step 2 –Add the olive oil and the sausage to the pot and cook, breaking into small pieces, until golden brown and no longer pink, about 6 minutes.

Step 3 –With a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked sausage to a plate and set aside.

Step 4 –Lower the heat to medium and add the garlic to the same pot. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 5 –Add the pasta, the broth, the water, the oregano, the salt, and the pepper to the garlic and bring to a simmer.

Step 6 –Lower the heat to medium or medium-low to keep the pasta mixture simmering, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes.

Step 7 –Stir the broccoli into the pasta mixture.

Step 8 –Cover the pot and cook until the pasta and broccoli are just tender, stirring halfway through, about 5 minutes.

Step 9 –Uncover the pot and add the sun-dried tomatoes, the heavy cream, and the cooked sausage.

Step 10 –Cook the pasta and sausage mixture until heated through, about 1 minute.

Step 11 –Transfer the pasta and sausage mixture from the heat and stir in the parmesan cheese and the lemon juice.

Step 12 –Serve topped with more of the parmesan and the red chili flakes.
