Florida French Toast

The sunshine flavors of the Sunshine State can illuminate any kitchen, anywhere, with Florida French Toast! The toast is coated in bright, zesty orange flavors and smeared with creamy, tangy cream cheese before being coated in even more citrus flavoring. Florida French Toast will certainly wake you up in the morning, because how could your tastebuds not feel up-and-at-’em when they’ve been bathed in this sweet sunbeam?

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup pecans, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest, grated
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 12 (3/4-inch-thick) slices French bread
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange liqueur, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring

Directions

Step 1 –Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2 –Combine the sugar, the pecans, the orange zest, and the cinnamon in a bowl.

Step 3 –Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the butter.

Step 4 –Arrange the bread on top of the sugar mixture.

Step 5 –Spread the bread with the cream cheese.

Step 6 –In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, the orange juice, the orange liqueur, and the butter flavoring together.

Step 7 –Pour the egg mixture over the bread.

Step 8 –Cover the baking dish and refrigerate it for at least 8 hours and up to overnight.

Step 9 –Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Step 10 –Transfer the baking dish from the fridge 30 minutes before baking.

Step 11 –Bake the French toast, uncovered, until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 12 –Slice and serve.
