Sauerkraut Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage links, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and quartered
  • 1 (27-ounce) can sauerkraut, rinsed and well-drained
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –In a large skillet, cook the sausage and the onion over medium heat until the sausage is no longer pink and the onion is tender, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3 –Drain the fat from the skillet.

Step 4 –Stir the apples, the sauerkraut, the water, the brown sugar, and the caraway seeds into the sausage mixture.

Step 5 –Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2-quart baking dish.

Step 6 –Cover the casserole and bake for 1 hour.

Step 7 –Serve.
