Shirley’s Bananas Foster takes a high-class dessert and makes it easy and speedy so you can enjoy it whenever. The bananas are caramelized in a smoky-sweet brown sugar and rum mixture and poured atop refreshingly creamy vanilla ice cream; Shirley truly outdid herself on this! Shirley’s Bananas Foster is fruity, crunchy, and decadent in the way all the best desserts should be. Grab a spoon and dig in!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons rum
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise and crosswise
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –In a large, deep skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.

Step 2 –Stir in the brown sugar, the rum, the vanilla, and the cinnamon.

Step 3 –Cook until the sugar mixture begins to bubble.

Step 4 –Add the bananas and the walnuts to the pan.

Step 5 –Cook until the bananas are hot and starting to caramelize, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6 –Serve immediately over the vanilla ice cream.
