Supreme Bubble-Up Bake

Supreme Bubble-Up Bake is bubbling over with the best pizza flavors! Some buttery biscuits act as the crust for this once-handheld-turned-casserole delight. That stand-in crust gets coated and smothered with some rich pasta sauce that is filled with spicy Italian sausage and crunchy veggies, and of course, there’s a nice sprinkle of gooey mozzarella cheese on top. It’s fun to mix up the ways you eat your favorite dishes! Supreme Bubble-Up Bake is just bursting with possibilities!

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 4 ounces bulk Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 (10.2-ounce) can refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
  • 1 cup tomato basil pasta sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 –Coat a 2-quart glass baking dish with cooking spray.

Step 3 –In a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat, heat the oil.

Step 4 –Add the sausage to the oil and cook, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 5 –Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked sausage to a small bowl.

Step 6 –Add the mushrooms, the red onion, and the bell pepper to the drippings in the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and browned, about 2-4 minutes.

Step 7 –Transfer the skillet from the heat.

Step 8 –Separate the dough into 5 biscuits and cut each biscuit into 6 pieces.

Step 9 –Place the biscuit pieces in a medium bowl.

Step 10 –Add the pasta sauce to the biscuit pieces and gently stir to coat.

Step 11 –Stir the sausage, the vegetable mixture, and 1/2 cup of the cheese into the biscuit-sauce mixture.

Step 12 –Evenly spoon the biscuit mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

Step 13 –Bake the casserole until the biscuits in the center are baked through and the tops are golden-brown, about 20-25 minutes.

Step 14 –Serve.
