Ingredients

  • 12 ounces medium pasta, such as penne
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage or lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup pizza toppings, of your choice, such as mushrooms, olives, or bell peppers
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1 (14-ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 (14-ounce) can pizza sauce
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 3 cups pizza blend cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

Step 2 -Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.

Step 3 -Cook the pasta to al dente, according to the package directions.

Step 4 -Drain the pasta and set it aside.

Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the Italian sausage and the onions, about 5 minutes.

Step 6 -Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Step 7 -Season with the salt and the pepper.

Step 8 -Drain the excess fat from the pan.

Step 9 -Add the pizza toppings and cook until tender, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 10 -Add the diced tomatoes, the oregano, the Italian seasoning, the pizza sauce, and the marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 11 -Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to combine.

Step 12 -Pour the pasta mixture into the prepared casserole pan, spreading it into an even layer.

Step 13 -Sprinkle the pizza cheese on top.

Step 14 -Evenly add the pepperoni slices over the cheese layer.

Step 15 -Top with the parmesan cheese.

Step 16 -Bake uncovered until the cheese is browned, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 17 -Serve hot!
