Ingredients
- butter, to taste, for greasing a baking dish
- 8 slices white bread, crusts removed and cut into cubes
- 2 cups sharp or mild cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 1/4 cups ham, cooked, diced
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 6 large eggs, beaten
- 3 cups milk
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions
Step 1 –Butter a shallow 2-quart baking dish.
Step 2 –Place the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish.
Step 3 –Sprinkle the bread cubes with the shredded cheese, the ham, the onion, and the green bell pepper.
Step 4 –In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, the milk, the salt, and the black pepper together.
Step 5 –Pour the egg mixture over the ham mixture. Cover the casserole and refrigerate for at least 8 hours and up to overnight.
Step 6 –Transfer the breakfast casserole from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Step 7 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 8 –Uncover the casserole and bake until set, about 40 minutes.
