Best Breakfast Casserole

It’s sausage and potatoes. Of course, it’s the Best Breakfast Casserole! Can’t forget the fluffy eggs or the sharp cheddar cheese, obviously, but it really does come down to the crispy hashbrowns and savory, spicy sausage. That’s what makes this Best Breakfast Casserole the best! Simple as that!

Ingredients

  • 1 (2-pound) package frozen hashbrown potatoes, thawed
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 12 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease an 8-inch square pan.

Step 3 –Add the hashbrowns to the prepared pan and arrange them in an even layer.

Step 4 –Place the sausage and the onion in a large skillet over medium heat and cook, stirring, until the sausage is browned and crumbled, about 10 minutes.

Step 5 –Drain the fat from the skillet.

Step 6 –Whisk the eggs, the milk, the onion powder, the garlic powder, the salt, and the pepper together in a large bowl until well-combined.

Step 7 –Pour the milk mixture over the potatoes.

Step 8 –Sprinkle the potatoes with 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese.

Step 9 –Add the sausage mixture on top of the potato layer.

Step 10 –Sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese.

Step 11 –Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 1 hour.

Step 12 –Remove the foil and bake until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, about 10 minutes.

Step 13 –Let the casserole stand for 5 minutes.
