Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 large yellow onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (14-1/2-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herb seasoning
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt, or to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked

Directions

Step 1 –Cook and stir the ground beef in a large Dutch oven or pan over a medium to high heat. Break up the meat while cooking.

Step 2 –Stop cooking the meat when it is no longer pink and has started to brown, this takes around 10 minutes. Scrape off any excess grease.

Step 3 –Stir in the onions and garlic. Cook again and mix the meat mixture until the onions are soft and translucent, another 10 minutes.

Step 4 –Stir in the water, the tomato sauce, the diced tomatoes, the soy sauce, the Italian seasoning, the bay leaves and the seasoned salt into the meat mixture, bringing the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

Step 5 –Reduce the heat to low and cover.

Step 6 –Let the meat mixture simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring it every once in a while.

Step 7 –Mix in the macaroni to the mixture, cover again, and let the mixture simmer over the same low heat for about 25 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, once again stirring every once in a while.
