Classic Smoked Turkey

Ingredients

  • 1 (10-pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 (12-ounce) cans cola-flavored soda
  • 1 apple, quartered
  • 1 onion, peeled and quartered
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the smoker to 225-250 degrees F.

Step 2 -Rinse the turkey under cold water, then pat dry.

Step 3 -Rub the crushed garlic all over the outside of the turkey. Then sprinkle with the seasoned salt.

Step 4 -Set the turkey in a disposable roasting pan.

Step 5 -Mix the cola, the butter, the onion, the apple, the garlic powder, the salt, and the ground black pepper.

Step 6 -Then, fill the turkey cavity up with the cola mixture.

Step 7 -Loosely cover the turkey with foil.

Step 8 -Place the turkey in the smoker, smoking until the internal temperature reads 180 degrees F when measured in the thickest part of the thigh, for 10 hours.

Step 9 -Baste the turkey every 1-2 hours with the juices from the bottom of the roasting pan.

Step 10 -Let the turkey rest for a few minutes to ensure maximum juiciness, then serve!
