Ingredients

  • 4 pounds beef short ribs, bone-in
  • 1 (15-ounce) can thick and zesty tomato sauce, such as Contadina®, can substitute regular tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Directions

Step 1 –Place the ribs in a 5-quart slow cooker.

Step 2 –In a large saucepan, add the tomato sauce, the water, the onion, the tomato paste, the brown sugar, the cider vinegar, the Worcestershire sauce, the chili powder, the garlic, the mustard, and the salt and stir until combined. Bring to a boil.

Step 3 –Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce until it has slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4 –Pour the sauce over the ribs. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat until the meat is tender, about 6-8 hours.

Step 5 –Serve the ribs covered in the sauce.
