How Long To Dry Marijuana (And Why)?

Exact Answer: 1 Week

Drugs are now being used everywhere for all sorts of purposes. Cannabis normally refers to three types of plants, known as Cannabis indica, Cannabis ruderalis, and Cannabis sativa. These plants contain flowers, which are harvested and dried. When these flowers and buds of cannabis are dried, they can be made into the most commonly used drugs across the world. This drug is called weed in some places, while in some other places it is called pot and marijuana.

There are many countries in which weed and marijuana are legal, while in some it is not. The number of people using cannabis is increasing every single day. Cannabis is normally consumed for its calming and relaxing effects, which people get from the components present in them. It has been noticed that doctors have prescribed cannabis for many medical conditions like poor appetite, chronic pain, and any sort of medical condition that required pain killers and relaxers.

First, the marijuana must be dried and cured to make the drugs. According to the marijuana manufacturers, it takes about a week or two to dry the flower buds.

Cannabis is technically made up of more than 120 components and they are called cannabinoids. Though there are many cannabinoids in cannabis, the most popular ones researchers found are CBD and THC, which are abbreviated as Cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol. These two are the major psychoactive compounds and the only difference between CBD and THC is that CBD is the compound that does not give any effects of intoxication or euphoria.

THC, on the other hand, is the compound that is highly responsible for the “high” a person gets when they are intake cannabis. When taken in limits, they can have some short-term effects. It is important not to overdose, which can lead to disastrous consequences. Some of the short terms effects can be beneficial while some can cause discomfort. Some of the short-term symptoms include relaxation, giddiness, increase in appetite, focus, and creativity, altered perception of time, date, and events.

Some of the other problem-causing symptoms include anxiety lethargy, paranoia, increase in heart rate and decrease in blood pressure, nausea, and much more.

Why Does It Take That Long To Dry Marijuana?

To prepare the drugs, one must first get their hands on a cannabis plant. The plant must be grown at the right temperature and it must be harvested. After they are harvested, they must be preserved well. When they are not preserved well, they cannot have all the traits they are supposed to have. Before preparing the drug, the flowers and flower buds must be dried well.

When the flower buds are not dried properly, moisture builds on the flowers, which can lead to the growth of fungi. Proper drying and curing is a must to reduce the water content and the dried buds are better to consume and lit up. Also, since marijuana is smoked, it is better to dry them well. The primary goal is to dry the cannabis to reduce the water content in the plants by about 10 to 15 percent. Apart from drying the cannabis, curing them can also make them complex and smooth.

Some of the materials required to dry out marijuana in the home itself include a drying or baking rack, a fan, either humidifier or dehumidifier, anything like twine, string, or hangers to suspend the whole plant, and rubber gloves or disposable gloves.

Conclusion

Some people try to dry the whole plant while some just trim the branches and flower buds since most of the water content is stored in the stem. Use gloves to trim since this can secrete some sticky material, and hang the plants on a rod or dry the branches in a cardboard box. They must be stored in a dark and enclosed space, and never crowd the plants.

Rotate them, keep moving them and flip them when necessary. Keep the plants away from sunlight and at a temperature of about 60 to 70 Fahrenheit. Maintain the humidity at about 45 to 55 percent using the humidifier or dehumidifier. The time taken to dry the marijuana depends on the size of the plant.
