Why Was Rick In Coma For So Long?
Rick stays in hospital for about 4 to 5 weeks which can be easily determined by the length of his beard and the completely dried flowers on his table. Also, while Rick was in a coma, he did not die of dehydration even though his IV bag was empty as the world was in the apocalyptic setting. His duration in the coma of being several weeks long is also justified by the conditions of the desiccated and decomposed bodies lying in and around the hospital he was admitted in.
Rick, while in his unconscious state, was in the hospital. After he recovers and is wakes up from his deep slumber, he realizes that he was in a coma as he was shot in the shooting. He finds himself all alone in the hospital setting after he comes out of his coma.
Rick becomes all confused by seeing the deserted hospital and lays his eyes for the first time after waking up from the coma upon a zombie. He was shocked to find out that the entire city where he was living had fallen into the capture of the horrifying zombies, the walking dead. He also later discovers that his wife Lori and his son had already left the city and fled far away from that place with a group of other survivors of the apocalypse.
After he wakes up from his coma of 4 to 5 weeks, he sets out to find his family to reunite with them.
