Man’s Best Friend Casserole

This is the sloppy joe casserole that will fill your heart with nostalgia, while filling your belly with amazing flavors! The sloppy joe filling is that classic sweet-and-savory beefy sauce that you love to pile high on rolls… and you’re just in luck! Man’s Best Friend Casserole provides its own butter-brushed and seasoned rolls baked right on top! And it doesn’t even take that long to make! Your dining table will have a new favorite friend in not time, that’s for sure!

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 2 large carrots, peeled and grated
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • hot sauce, optional, to taste
  • 12 slider rolls
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 –Place 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet and place it over medium heat.

Step 3 –Add the carrot, the onion, and the green bell pepper and cook until slightly softened, about 4 minutes.

Step 4 –Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 5 –Add the ground beef, while crumbling, and cook until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess fat from the skillet.

Step 6 –Add the ketchup, the brown sugar, the chili powder, the dry mustard, the beef stock, the tomato paste, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, and the pepper and stir to combine.

Step 7 –Simmer the mixture for 3-5 minutes.

Step 8 –Add the hot sauce.

Step 9 –Transfer the beef mixture to a 9×13-inch casserole dish.

Step 10 –In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the remaining butter.

Step 11 –Nestle the slider rolls (keeping the tops and bottoms together) onto the sloppy joe mixture.

Step 12 –Brush the tops of the rolls with the melted butter.

Step 13 –Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning all over the top of the buttered rolls.

Step 14 –Bake until the tops of the rolls are slightly toasted, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 15 –Serve immediately.
