With just a touch of melty cheese, sweet sauteed onions, and hearty mushrooms on top, these steaks and satisfying and speedy; it takes less than half an hour to make this fabulous fine dining meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper, divided
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 8 oz baby portobello mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted beef stock
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine
  • 4 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced

Directions

Step 1 –Mix together the beef, 1 teaspoon of the olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper into a medium-sized bowl and combine it with your hands. Be careful not to overmix it.

Step 2 –Divide the beef mixture into 4 portions, shaping each of the portions into a patty shape.

Step 3 –Heat a pan to medium-high heat on the stovetop.

Step 4 –Add the remaining 2 teaspoons of the olive oil into the pan, swirling it to coat the pan and allowing it to heat to a shimmer.

Step 5 –Add the patties into the pan and cook them for 3 minutes on each side.

Step 6 –Transfer the patties from the pan.

Step 7 –Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of the olive oil into the pan, swirling to coat it completely.

Step 8 –Add the onion and mushrooms into the pan, cooking until the mushrooms are nice and browned, about 5 minutes.

Step 9 –Sprinkle the pan with the flour, the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of pepper.

Step 10 –Saute for 2 minutes.

Step 11 –Add in the beef stock and wine to the pan.

Step 12 –Saute the mixture, making sure to stir frequently, until it has thickened and is slightly reduced, for around 1 minute.

Step 13 –Move the onion mixture to the outsides of the pan.

Step 14 –Put the patties back into the same pan.

Step 15 –Lay a slice of cheese over each patty.

Step 16 –Ladle the onion mixture over the patties using a spoon.

Step 17 –Cover the patties and cook until the cheese melts, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 18 –Serve with plenty of the gravy on top!
