The Midwest’s Best Casserole

Still, some really great things come from there–like extremely friendly and hardworking people who are reliable and consistent. The Midwest’s Best Casserole shares those same characteristics, too. You can always count on the ground beef to be salty, the sloppy joe sauce to be savory, the cheese to be melty, and the biscuits to be fluffy–all layered together to create one simple masterpiece. So here’s to you, The Midwest’s Best Casserole, for being the tasty reminder that simple isn’t always boring!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef
  • 1 (15.5-ounce) can of sloppy joe sauce
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups biscuit/baking mix
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup milk, 2%
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 –Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –In a large skillet, cook and crumble the beef over medium heat until it is no longer pink, about 7-10 minutes.

Step 4 –Drain the grease from the skillet.

Step 5 –Stir the sloppy joe sauce into the meat and ensure the meat is thoroughly covered.

Step 6 –Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking dish.

Step 7 –Sprinkle the meat mixture with the cheese.

Step 8 –In a large bowl, combine the biscuit mix, eggs, and milk until it is just blended.

Step 9 –Pour the biscuit mixture over the cheese on the meat mixture and sprinkle with the sesame seeds.

Step 10 –Bake, uncovered, until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
